Canadian Covid-19 International Travel Restrictions Update

Yesterday Justin Trudeau announced current nonessential, international travel restrictions have been extended until at least the 21st of June.

However, there is good news on the horizon; The Prime Minister recently suggested that the border restrictions will look to be loosened when 75% of Canadians have received their full vaccination.

With little over 46% of Canadians currently having received their first dose of the various Covid-19 vaccinations, a return to our normal free-travelling lives is still some way off. But, that is not something to sneer at; the end to travel restrictions is in sight.

Calls for ‘creative solutions’ for the Canada-US border have been intensifying with the recent ramp-up in inoculations, however a road map beyond the 30 day extension is yet to exist. First dose rates either side of the border are nearing 50% of the population, so we can hope for further good news there in the not too distant future.

Ahead of the Victoria Day long weekend, Vancouver police are expected to increase their enforcement of the local travel restrictions by way of road checks.
